My biological grandmother was Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Huffman. She was the daughter of Elon and Genie (Hooten Davis) Smith. I still have many questions and a huge brick wall on her direct ancestry and have hope that a trip to Kentucky and Tennessee might shed some light into the earlier origins of the Smith family. Despite this, I have found one of the most varied and interesting ancestries I have ever seen in the lines of one of the Smith wives, Martha Hardin. The Smiths lived in several counties in Kentucky and Madison County, Tennessee.

My grandmother had another family named Smith from her grandmother Martha T. Hardin's line. Dorcas Smith Page was born in Prince William County, Virginia in 1771.
